If I am over 40 do I get a discount?
If you take out a motorcycle policy and you are over 40 and all drivers of the vehicles are over 40 you will receive a discount.
Do I have to pay an excess?
For a dirt bike policy the basic excess you will have to pay for each and every non theft claim is $150. The basic excess applicable to theft claims is $350.
For a scooter and bike policy the amount of basic excess you have to pay will vary depending on your age, experience and the type of bike you have and whether or not your motorcycle was being ridden by an unnamed rider. There will also be an age or inexperienced rider excess if your bike is being ridden by or is in the charge of any named or unnamed rider under the age of 25. Your Famous consultant will be able to talk you through the excess that applies to you.
If I have a dirt bike, am I covered while I’m riding it?
No you’re not. The events you are insured for include:
- fire, explosion, lightning, earthquake and flood
- collision, impact, overturning or jack-knifing of a vehicle transporting your dirt bike
- theft from a locked vehicle transporting your dirt bike while your dirt bike was locked to or in the carrying vehicle and following forcible and violent entry into the locked vehicle or carrying compartment e
- theft from a securely locked and enclosed building following forcible and violent entry
- theft of the vehicle which was transporting your dirt bike
- malicious damage whilst kept in a securely locked and enclosed building.
Can I decide who repairs my bike if I have a claim?
You can choose a repairer or use one of our recommended repairers – it’s your choice.
Do I get a No Claims Bonus (NCB) and how much is it?
A discount is provided to reward good riders. To provide this discount we consider your recent driving and riding history combined with the NCB granted by your current insurer. To obtain the maximum NCB of 65% you need to have 5 years of not making a claim on any motorcycle insurance with us or another insurer.
What do I need to tell you about once the policy is in place
You need to tell us about any changes to nominated drivers or additional drivers and if you change your contact details. If you are in doubt about the information you should tell us please give us a call. It could save you later on if your claim is rejected because of undisclosed information.
When am I not covered?
You will not be covered under certain circumstances, for example we will not cover claims for loss or damage or liability if the bike is being used illegally or for unlawful purposes. You will also not be covered if the motorcycle is being driven by any person under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Please read your Product Disclosure Statement and policy wording

What should you do if you have a complaint?
If you have a complaint you can call, write, email, fax or visit us about your concerns. The “How We Resolve Your Complaints” section in our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) gives a comprehensive guide of what you can expect from our complaints resolution process. Your complaint will usually be resolved before the end of next business day but if it is more serious, the relevant team leader or manager will review your complaint and contact you no later than 5 business days from when the complaint was first made. If you are not satisfied with our resolution, the matter will be referred to our Internal Dispute Resolution (IDR) team. IDR will provide you with their final decision within 15 business days of your complaint being referred to them. IDR’s contact details are below.
Even if we are still considering your complaint, if we are unable to provide you with a resolution within 45 days, you can then take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
